Kirkland’s, Inc. to Sponsor Bowl-a-Thon to Benefit Camp Charley
Nashville – Kirkland’s, Inc. has partnered with The Charley Foundation, a 501c(3) non-profit organization, to sponsor the first annual Camp Charley Spooktacular Weekend. Camp Charley will take place on October 17-19 at the Center for Courageous Kids, a medical facility disguised as a camp in Scottsville, Kentucky. The Center for Courageous Kids provides a once-in-a-lifetime camp experience for seriously ill children. Kirkland’s will help the foundation host 20-30 families of children with critical medical needs and sometimes terminal illnesses at a Halloween themed adventure.
On September 30, Kirkland’s will host the first annual Bowl-a-thon to benefit Camp Charley. Each family is able to attend the camp free of charge, but the Charley Foundation is responsible for raising $2,000 per family to cover all of the costs incurred during the weekend, both medical and otherwise. Through fundraising and Bowl-a-thon participation, Kirkland’s is committed to supporting the attendance of 7 families: $14,000.
Family weekends at the Center for Courageous Kids are essential for the entire family unit to persevere through a childhood illness. The weekend will provide parents and siblings facing similar challenges the chance to bond with other families. These challenges have not only cost the children part of their precious childhood experience, they have often also ravaged the entire family through the loss of resources and emotional energy. Through participation in Camp Charley, these children and their families will learn that they are not alone. The weekend program is designed for the entire family including a parent’s night out and non-stop activities for the children.
